The Senior Officials of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) are currently meeting on the margins of the Council of Ministers in Harare, Republic of Zimbabwe, from 04-05 March 2025 to review the implementation of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2020-2030).
The RISDP is a 10-year strategic plan based on a firm foundation of Peace, Security and Democratic Governance, and premised on three interrelated pillars, namely: Industrial Development and Market Integration; Infrastructure Development in support of Regional Integration; and Social and Human Capital Development.
In his opening remarks, the SADC Executive Secretary, His Excellency Mr. Elias Magosi said that the meeting is convened following a directive from SADC Council for the Senior Officials and technical experts to deliberate on the RISDP, to appreciate the real challenges and identify practical and impactful solutions that will move the SADC region forward. “We need to start a deeper technical dialogue on the RISDP and report back to Council with solutions to guide the next and final five years of the current RISDP, since its implementation has now reached the halfway mark”, H.E Magosi added.
The meeting is chaired by Ambassador Albert Ranganai Chimbindi, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Chairperson of the SADC Standing Committee of Senior Officials.
Ambassador Chimbindi highlighted the need for improved interventions that will make positive changes in the lives of the SADC citizens in the next remaining five years RISDP 2020-2030. The review evaluates implementation across all Pillars and provides strategic direction to accelerate the delivery of regional integration objectives in an environment characterised by global economic volatility, climate challenges, and emerging geopolitical tensions.
